About

My goal is to blog about being a writer and bookseller in Alaska, everything from ice skating on a nearby lake to making wild blueberry jam with my daughters to new and classic books I am reading.

My debut novel, The Snow Child, will be published Feb. 1, 2012, by Reagan Arthur Books/Little, Brown & Co.  Find out more at my website: eowynivey.com.

    Hi Eowyn,

We used to know each other ;) Sam was my first neighbor in Palmer when we lived on Max and Dorothy Sherrods’ farm land. Now I’m a librarian in Helena, Montana and you were a “suggestion” on my Facebook margin. I peeked at your profile and was thrilled to see your website and blog, but I was most excited about your soon-to-be published book! I can’t wait to share it with my students since I force my Alaska connections and past down their throats as often as I can. Good luck, best wishes, and you’ll have a rave endorsement from me; I’ll be sure to pass your title on to my colleagues!

Hi Jeanne! What a great surprise to hear from you on here! I didn’t know you are a librarian. I’m so glad you found me online. That’s one of the wonderful things I’ve discovered about the social networking thing — reconnecting with people. We’ll have to stay in touch!

Reading through your blog and seeing the books you’ve read , maybe we could connect on Goodreads.com – another social networking site for readers. Friends can share lists and I’m always looking for like-minded gals to suggest things to read that will distract me from…

I’m just starting to get familiar with Goodreads — I was fortunate enough to get a wonderful review on there by a reader. It looks like a great site! Once I get established on there, I’ll look you up.

    Hello Eowyn,
We are looking forward to meeting you in February and to the event you are doing for us at Atkinson-Pryce Books. You are in safe hands with your Headline team, Sam and Gillian are great, but please let us know if there is anything we can do or anything you need for the event here in Biggar.
    With best wishes,
    Sue and Chris

    Ms. Ivey,
I’m currently reading your book and have wept for the graceful writing and exquisite story-telling. It’s been incredible. I feel like I’ve lived in the Alaskan wilderness!
I’m half-way done and dread the day I have to return the library book. Fortunately, I’ve ordered the book online and can re-read it again :) .
Do you have any book tours scheduled for New York? I’d love the opportunity to meet the voice behind _The Snow Child_.

I look forward to reading your future projects.

    Best of Luck!

    Regards,
    Pressy Varghese

I just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed and admired your book. I downloaded it to my kindle yesterday and finished it this morning having done nothing save sleep a few hours and make coffee in between. It is so beautifully written and structured, moving and uplifting. I felt happy to be alive again after a year blighted by bereavement and limited by injury. I went out and walked further than I thought I could manage along the cliffs near my home and felt really hopeful and reconnected with the world for the first time in ages. Thank you.

First off: I Love your name! My daughters (Kayleigh and Breanna Seagraves) have been in school with yours for years now… and another PJMS mother told me to pick up your book recently. I immediately ordered it on the Kindle and am reading it now. I just wanted to sneak a peek into your sites and learn more. I am excited not only because you are local but because you serve as a prime example to my eldest, Breanna, who aspires to become a journalist and author. I also can appreciate the wholesome lifestyle you live with your family. Though we haven’t hunted up here yet, we compost, garden, harvest salmon, berries, can foods and recycle too. Congratulations on such a remarkable first novel and I do ever so hope that you will continue to write so that we can continue to read great local authors works like yours!

Eowyn — I wanted to thank you for the gem that is “The Snow Child”. The snow-laden imagery brought me back to “Ethan Frome”, one of my favourite books from childhood, and a story my mother read my years ago about a couple who could not conceive and thus crafted children out of raindrops. I am so very glad you reappropriated this age-old narrative.

Truly looking forward to your future writings, since “The Snow Child” was the best read yet this year!

    Kindly,
    Beverly Penn

    Hi Eowyn,
I am currently reading your book and am really enjoying it. I also really like your blog. It’s interesting to hear about Alaska and your adventures outdoors. I’d love to come there one day and explore and do a bit of snowboarding as well. :) You may already know this but I wanted to let you know that there is a typo in the London UK edition published by Headline. It’s on p. 129, 4th paragraph, third line. ‘Good’ should say ‘stood.’ I’ve recently been doing some writing myself (and am an English teacher) so I noticed. Will you be making your way to Australia one day? I bought your book at a great independent bookstore in Sydney. Your book has a “staff’s pick” write-up below it on the shelf. Well done! I noticed that you said you met the author of, “The Art of Fielding.’ I have just ordered it from my bookstore. Good luck!

Snow Child is a truly memorizing book. I was leaving the states for a 5-month trip around the world and I happened to pick up your book the evening before I left just to browse until I got back. I was immediately captivated and to my boyfriend’s (and traveling companion’s) dismay, stayed up all night so I could finish the book. I’m a true to heart Texas girl and your writing made me feel that I had just whethered my first Alaskan winter. Such a beautiful story- I had to take a number of breaks because my eyes had tears in them and everything went blurry (which is quite surprising for me). Ever since I read Into the Wild I’ve been fascinated with the wildness and brutality of Alaska, but your book also brought a magical and serene quality to it which fascinated me even more. Need more Alaskan novels!

Looking forward to your next novel!

    Korey
